For one week last year, the Hauraki Gulf was awash with colour for the Hyundai 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 world championships.
The event hosted by the Royal Akarana Yacht Club was a huge success, with 402 sailors from 41 countries descending on Auckland for a spectacular and, at times, dramatic regatta.
Who can forget Peter Burling and Blair Tuke capsizing on the final day only to hang on and claim their fifth 49er world title?
Now you can relive the event in a beautiful hard-cover book of photos taken by world-renowned sailing photographer Matias Capizzano. The 110-page book brings the regatta to life with photos on and off the water – the heartache and hard work, the tears and triumph.
An online version of the book can be viewed here but there’s nothing quite like having a copy on your coffee table.
Please register your interest in obtaining a copy by emailing event director Peter Dawson. The more people who order one, the cheaper it will be because another print run is being done but it is likely to be about $150 (+ postage and packaging).
